OK, first of all I just gotta' say, W O W!
This was my first Jodi Picoult novel and it won't be the last. I decided to take a friend of a friend's recommendation and check it out. It was the most educating, moving and thought-provoking piece of fiction I've picked up since A Thousand Splendid Suns.
Picoult's most recent claim to fame is My Sister's Keeper, which apparently has also been adapted to film, though I have yet to read or see either. And if you read any of her work, you'll quickly discover that here is an author who lends a keen eye and a detailed stroke to her characters. It is obvious that she painstakingly researches prior to writing a single word.
That being said, I found Plain Truth to be the most insightful piece I've read regarding the Amish E V E R ! And let's just say I've read a few...Beverly Lewis, Wanda Brunstetter, etc. Except for Cindy Woodsmall, J.P.'s Plain Truth puts the others to shame in my opinion. Though I still enjoyed the stories, they just fall into a completely different category.
Beware, she always includes a twist...and boy did it surprise me! I just sat there with my mouth hanging open!
I'd describe Picoult as a mixture of John Grisham, Francine Rivers, and Khaled Hosseini: a well-scripted courtroom drama, flawed and believable characters, within an accurate cultural framework that provokes you to think deeply.

I've heard a lot about this author, but have never read her. Thanks for the review.
Great to hang out with you guys on Saturday!
I've seen her books and have wanted to read some of them - thanks for the review. Maybe I can start with this one sometime...
Thanks for playing along with the tag!! :-D
That, my dear, was a very well written review. As you know, I loved My Sister's Keeper. Wanna trade?
How timely that you should post this... I'm reading it right now and having a hard time putting it down! I, too, have been quite educated on the Amish through the book. Can't wait to see what the twist is at the end - thanks for your review!
Okay, you have just talked me into reading this book. I'll check it out at the library first chance I get.
I LOVE Jodi Piccoult but strangely this is one I've never read! Nineteen Minutes was the first one I read and that got me hooked.
Kristin,
I have Nineteen Minutes requested through the library right now. Can't wait! :o)
Jodi Picoult is great!! She and I are published by the same team, so maybe you'd like my book too? Standing Still, by Kelly Simmons. I live not far from Lancaster so if you know any book clubs that want to read it we can set up a visit!

Your review sounds very interesting, krista. I have never heard of this author but I like thought-provoking books and so I am going to read any of Jodi Picoult's books that will be available here to get to know her. Can you tell me any particular idea coming from the book "Plain Truth" you had to think about most?
Best regards. Petra
Krista,
Thanks for the recommendation. I need a new book to read.
Could you resend the email you sent to me in response to my mommy blog? I lost all email addresses and emails in our computer crash; AND I didn't get a chance to read all the blogs you had recommended.
Thanks, cous'!
Dana
You gotta read My Sister's Keeper - the first one I read and I have a stack of her other ones to read, too! Definitely a thought-provoking writer! (And you, what a well-written review!)
