It's Been 17 Years...

...since I've changed a tire. Driver's Ed class, my sophomore year. Eons ago.

Thank the Lord for cell phones, spares, a sunny day, and animal crackers!

This morning the kids and I were shopping for a birthday gift and a few other things at Target and as we load everything/one back into the car to head home, I back out of the space and immediately hear the flapping. Lovely.

I look around for the necessary tools and call my husband. He walks me through what goes where and after I FINALLY connect the dots to where the jack thingy fits everything goes smoothly. I also am thanking God that I just purchased a big box of animal crackers and instruct Natalia to chow down and share with her brother who is desperate for some grub and Z's...a lethal combination.

Three people stop in the parking lot to ask if I needed help. I thank them, assure them that my hubby is on the phone and that, really, I NEED to do this. I could use the refresher.

The spare tire is tightened, the all-wheel drive fuse dismantled, and we drive the 20 minute homestretch under 50mph with blinkers on Route 30. I am patting myself on the back with my grubby hands.

Whew!

Now where is that FAST ORANGE grease removal soap?

Kudos to you. I would have just waited for hubby! ;-D lol

Can I have your cell # in case I have a flat and can't reach him? heehee Seriously, I commend you. Actually, every now and then, I ask Trav where everything is if I'd ever get a flat and where things go. Maybe this was my much needed motivation to do it myself in the garage - just to see if I still could! :)

You go girl!!!

WHy in the world do you "NEED" to change a flat tire? That's why we get married, isn't it? :)
Seriously, I would never have turned down help. I've never changed a tire and would like to die w/ that on my epitaph. :)
I'm sure you feel so accomplished, though. I'm sure you got some "cool mom" points from Natalya for that one. ;)

Go Girl!

When Derek was away for a week I was amazed at all the things I used to do for myself that he now cares for. Simple stuff.

I totally understand your need to do it yourself. When we had water pouring into our basement (POURING), I called Derek but knew I could do it on my own. And I was glad I did.

My hat is off to you! I have never changed a tire, and I have no desire to ever do it. If Dick couldn't come rescue me, I'd call AAA.

Congrats to you, woman! You make me proud. I need to learn, but frankly, the last time I tried to loosen the lug nuts, I couldn't.

You are superwoman! I would have attempted to change mine, but I would certainly not have turned down offers for help...especially with two tired, hungry babes!
