I thought I'd try something new...
Each Tuesday a new topic will appear. Just list your 5 answers in my comment box.
Today's Take 5 is this:
What are 5 jobs that you've had or would like to have?
1. I helped to make and serve breakfast, change & launder linens, and clean the rooms at a bed and breakfast during high school.
2. I worked for a summer in a sewing factory making ladies nightgowns and robes.
3. I did a short stint in a metalworking shop over Christmas break during college, spot-welding, bending pieces, etc. I came home looking like a grease-monkey every day.
4. I worked in a bakeshop, helping customers, making pastries, and decorating cakes...and quality taste-testing! :-)
5. I also taught in our former church's high school for 4 years: English Lit. & Composition, Speech, World History, Geography, and Art. Loved it and miss the people!
Let's hear from you folks! :-)

I loved waitressing. It was complete high-stress, prioritizing, being people-friendly... but I loved it (and it always felt good coming home with a wad of cash at the end of the night). I also loved working in the fine-food store (and also enjoyed taste-testing the pastries). I think I would like to try and be a baker, although I fear I would get bored of it. I miss teaching (but don't miss the 24/7 aspect of it). I think someday I would love a part-time job that I could really leave at the end of the day, and that would give good employee discounts.
I waitressed, which I really enjoyed because it was fast-paced and paid well. I've taught a online English AP class. I worked at a camp. I worked at Subway. And I worked at the museum. Now I work at being a mom, and writing and designing.
By the way, saw your comments on my blog. We miss you guys and would love to hang out with you again, like when we came for a visit. When the weather gets nicer, we'll have to plan to hang out again!
BTW, what did you think of the Kite Runner? I saw you gave it high stars.
Danielle,
We'll have to schedule a barbeque once things warm up! :-)
The Kite Runner pleasantly surprised me. I had heard so many people talking about it and always recommending it highly. It's one of those books that you come away from provoked, saddened, and yet hopeful. I really learned alot about Afghanistan and its culture, but both the Kite Runner and A Thousand Splendid Suns (which I liked even more!) were very well-written, thus a joy to read. Parts are very hard to stomach though simply because of the depravity of mankind, the horrors of war and the desperation it brings. I recommend both and would love to hear what you think!
1. I was a dining room aide, then supervisor, at The Mennonite Home.
2. I was a sales person at Bauers Cancellation Shoes.
3. I drove school bus for Hempfield.
4. I waitressed at Kreiders - my WORST JOB EVER!!!
5. I operated my own bed and breakfast.
6. (Sorry, I must add a sixth, because it's the one I've been doing most of my lifetime) I am a music teacher and worship leader.
1. I worked at a daycare center, mostly with their school age kids.
2. I taught flute lessons and had one piano student.
3. I was a youth pastor.
4. I am an occupational therapist. I worked in a hospital rehab center, then on the acute care floors. I then did nursing homes and finally management.
5. Mommy.
I, too, loved Kite Runner AND A Thousand Splendid Suns.
